Mugen presented the new Type-RR Experimental Spec at the Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) to promote the new Type-RR. The car has been specially equipped with an aluminum hood, carbon fiber front panels and a K20A engine with 260 bhp. The theme is extended to the interior which gets a thorough carbon fiber treatment and slim Recaro seats.
The Type-RR Experimental Spec also features a Intelligent-Tire Condition Monitoring System (i-TCMS).
Overall weight is reduced through a the aluminum hood (4.6 kg savings), as well as the new titanium exhaust system (7.6 kg).
Purely a showcar, their are no plans to produce the Experimenal Spec, although several of its components might be offered by Mugen to the Japenese domestic market (JDM).

WHAT IS VTEC?

What is VTEC?

VTEC stands for Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control, it allows Honda to specify different values when a valve is opened, and how much it is opened depending on a variety of factors. The biggest factor is RPM, in engines with static lift and duration would be restricted to a setup that would let in enough air and fuel at a low RPM would not allow enough air and fuel in at a higher RPM, greatly limiting the engine’s potential performance.

However, if the timing and duration were setup so that enough air and fuel was let in so that the engine would produce a lot of power in the higher revs, the engine would not run smoothly at low RPMs, and would not idle well.

The original VTEC first appeared on the 1989 Integra in Japan. Using a B16A engine it produced 160hp, reaching the “magical” 100 hp per liter mark. In the United States this new technology was first seen in the 1991 NSX, and soon became more available as it became integrated into cars such as the 1992 Integra GS-R.VTEC gave the engine two camshaft profiles, one for efficient smooth reliable low RPM operation, and one for power at high RPM operation. The profiles were switched based on oil pressure and engine speed. Oil pressure increases as RPMs increase, the engine uses this increased oil pressure to push a locking pin, which activates the high RPM cam profile.

The current Honda Odyssey is a design based on a Car+MPV concept, merging the desirable characteristic of the car ('dynamic performance and style) and the MPV (space, utility, versatility). It delivers an MPV which has the people moving capability of a good size MPV but the sleek looks of a car (or rather a large wagon) and it even drives like a car.

It's a great pity that Honda has in their infinite wisdom again decided to make the Odyssey Absolute one of the many annoying 'JDM-only' models. I suppose this is not going to go down very well with Honda but I have to point out that even if Honda decides to keep the Odyssey Absolute to themselves in Japan, many of us do have the option of the parallel importers. So if you have to get a people mover for domestic reasons but still have the performance fire burning inside you, and if you have the budget for it, the Odyssey Absolute might be something worth considering.

Little is more important in the tuning game than getting noticed. Some shops like to go about this in their own way – some build excessively powerful cars, others choose to get their name out there via curious looking body parts or paint jobs. But the guys at Takero’s have chosen to reach this goal by picking a very curious base as their newest and latest demo car. We first spotted this particular ride among the stands of this year's Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) and we just knew we had to take a closer look. After all it’s not ever day you see a turbo-charged, nitrous oxide breathing, Honda Odyssey minivan!
The man behind this crazy Odyssey is Takero-san, and no there are no prizes to be won for guessing where the company name comes from. His idea was simple – try to do something nobody has ever tried with a minivan. Over the years he has built numerous projects with station wagons, stepping to bigger, boxier things was a natural progression for his company. Specializing primarily in the design, development and creation of body kits Takero went full out on his new demonstration vehicle. To get noticed at TAS means one has to think long and hard to create something worthy of recognition which must be earned in both quality of work as well as looks. Nothing gets crowds more excited than wide body-kits and this is precisely what was done to the Odysseys flanks.
Carrying over from the aggressively styled front bumper are the fenders, which have been pushed out a few centimeters and feature an almost Super-GT looking air outlet thanks to the cut-out section where the fender meets the door. A deeply contoured set of side skirts have the job of carrying the Takero’s design to the rear portion of the Odyssey where the over-fenders begin flaring out the rear arches. This starts halfway across the rear doors and meets with the rest of the flaring on the actual fender part to create a new, low-set hip line. The Takero’s rear bumper blends into the new body proportions and features a carbon diffuser which has the job of adding rear end stability, together with the roof-mounted spoiler, when traveling at high speeds. Carbon is also used in the front splitter and hood, all done in-house at Takero’s to an incredible quality of finish. In fact Takero’s is responsible for building the carbon body-kit for the infamous Garage Saurus twin turbo Ferrari 550 Maranello, which takes us to the next aspect of this Honda minivan.
Once the body was taken care of it was on to the engine, which is why Takero-san called in the help of Hayashi-san at Garage Saurus. The two shops have been collaborating for many years and together make a killer partnership building some very special machinery. Garage Saurus had the job of adding some more spice to the rather asthmatic Honda KL24A 4-cylinder engine. In standard spec the i-VTEC unit develops an acceptable 200 hp giving average performance through its automatic transmission. But this wasn’t going to drum up any attention, so an HKS GT2530 turbine was thrown in for good measure. Mounted on a Takero’s exhaust manifold the GT2530’s 7 psi, cooled by a front-mounted intercooler, adds 50 more horses into the equation making things more interesting. But for the real boost in acceleration a nitrous oxide system was fitted and once activated pushes power to 330 PS!
And finally, the Takero's time attack Odyssey. No leather seats or tv screens here. This thing has been around for a while now, but it hasn't got any less impressive

Take a look at the pictures, it speaks for itself and show a Crossroad wearing a "Hummer" suit !The famous "boxy body" is reinforced by the various aerodynamic parts such as the "bulldozer" front bumper, at the rear the exhaust are either round or square depending on your liking, same goes for the wheels (17, 18 inches) chromed or polished. The rear wing is more of an ornament than a real performance tool to help the i-VTEC motors (1.8 and 2.0 litres) stand out. The lack of information about the engines probably means that they were unchanged.

At the end of the day if you like the "muscle" style then you can consider this Crossroad as yet another great job done Mugen, more than ever linked to the sporty image of Honda.

The redesigned 2009 Honda Fit just went on sale in the United States, but the new Fit has already been out here in Japan for a close to a year now. I was browsing through the latest issue of Style Wagon Magazine when I saw the newly updated Fit demo car from Noblesse. It is running a full Noblesse Lux type aero kit with a set of custom set of FRP blister fenders that are used to house the aggressive 18" Garson wheels (fitted with 5-lug adapters). Other coolness comes from a full set of Project Mu calipers and rotors and a one-off set of Noblesse dampers
Honda Jazz/Fit is a good selling car, even in Japan. If you have this car, it means you have the same car as billions other people.This is a good thing though, since there’s lots of tuner produce upgrade kit for this car. You can easily find upgrade kits from big tuner like Mugen or smaller tuner like Noblesse.They have 2 range of products, if you want to go simple and elegant, go for the type LUX, or if you want to apply racing style in your car, choose the type PS. The LUX type looks really good for the jazz/fit, and don’t forget the S Class look on the tail lamp, it’s just cool.
